Jon Feinman<br />Friday October 8, 2021<br />3-4PM on ZOOM<br /> <br />Jon will discuss the origins of Inner City Weightlifting, a program he developed in the Boston area that gives young people stigmatized by the judicial system hope, pride, a community to belong to, and a way out of gang violence. ICW challenges preconceived notions of criminality in communities that have been oppressed, blamed, and pathologized, and offers a creative and respectful alternative to mass incarceration.<br /> <br />Jon will discuss how and why he started ICW and how it evolved from a simple weight training program to a social justice organization that uses personal training to amplify voice and agency of people most often impacted by mass incarceration and systemic racism. What started as a gym, is now a community where people belong, are valued as equals, and listened to as the experts.
