Tell Me A Story: Building Connection Across Generations
A UMass Public Health Sciences and Northampton Neighbors Partnership
The pandemic has proven to be a particularly challenging and isolating time for people of all ages. Northampton Neighbors is partnering with UMass on a storytelling project–a unique opportunity to connect across generations.
The project will focus on building relationships between Northampton Neighbor members and UMass public health students enrolled in an upper-level undergraduate class entitled The Epidemic of Loneliness: On Connection, Belonging, and Public Health. Throughout the course, students and Northampton Neighbors members explore different ways to build connections, including through storytelling. Stories are recorded and shared using the StoryCorp format.
This is the third semester NN has been fortunate enough to participate in the Storytelling Project.
NN member Charlie DeRose participated in last year's
storytelling project. He reflects on his experiences with people
he met throughout his career. Listen or read more.
