We will walk at the Northampton Meadows meeting on Hockanum Road in Northampton at 10 a.m. (details below). It has been two years since the Monday Walking Group went to the Meadows at this location because a new bridge on I-91 was under construction, and /the area closed to visitors. Now that the new bridge is completed, Hockanum Road has reopened. A few reminders
--Each person walks at her/his own pace and walks only as far as they wish. There is no obligation to complete the walk or walk a certain distance. All are welcome. You do not have to be a resident of Northampton to walk with us.
--There are no restroom facilities at the Northampton Meadows.

MEETING TIME AND PLACE: 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 11, 2024 at the junction of Hockanum Road and Nook Road in the Northampton Meadows. After passing under the new I-91 bridge, make an immediate left onto a gravel road and park there, which is our meeting place. The gravel road is Nook Road (no street signs but is on the map). You can use Hockanum and Nook Roads, Northampton, Mass. as a GPS address which is recognized on Google maps.
DRIVING DIRECTIONS: From the intersection of Main and Pleasant Streets in downtown Northampton, proceed south on Pleasant Street .4 tenths of a mile and make a left hand turn onto Hockanum Road (a good landmark is 395 Pleasant Street, the offices of Northampton Integrative Medicine, which is on the right side of the street directly across from Hockanum Road). Proceed ½ mile on Hockanum Road, passing the Northampton Wastewater Treatment Plant on the right. After passing underneath Interstate-91, please make an immediate left and park on Nook Road.
DESCRIPTION OF WALK: We will be walking on farm roads in the meadows and returning to our starting point, a distance of some two to three miles. As we leave the city behind us, the views are of Mount Holyoke and the Summit House. Each person walks at her/his own pace and walks only as far as they wish. There is no obligation to complete the walk or walk a certain distance.
ROAD CONDITIONS: The farm roads in the meadows are gravel and earth. As a result, while currently dry, there may be wet spots if it rains. Please wear stout hiking boots, bring a rain jacket, hiking staffs if you use them, and water and snacks. Please note there are no restroom facilities in the Northampton Meadows.
