NN Speaker Series:
Francisca Verdoner Kan
Never Again; Do not underestimate children, they will always remember traumatic experiences.
On Friday, November 8, 2024 at 2 pm, the Speaker Series will be presented in person at the Northampton Senior Center.
Kan will speak about her traumatic experience of being hidden, alone and without family, in the house of rescuers. "Never again" is how her experience taught her, for life, that kindness and tolerance are critical for all religions, cultures, and communities. She only survived because of her rescuers.
Born in the Netherlands in 1937, Francisca Verdoner Kan survived the years of German occupation in hiding. She immigrated to the United States in 1946 and attended High School and College in New York City. Kan married a Dutchman and became a mother of three and grandmother of five. Kan was a professional painter, teacher of art, and museum docent. She became a widow after 58 years of marriage in 2016.
