About this event

We will be walking at the Fort River Refuge in Hadley at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 2, 2024

MEETING TIME AND PLACE: 193 Moody Bridge Road, Hadley, Mass 01035, at 10:00 a.m, Monday, September 2, 2024. This is near the intersection of South Maple Street and Moody Bridge Road, Hadley, MA, and can be used as a GPS address. We will meet on Moody Broge Road at the entrance to the Refuge. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has provided Porta Potties in the parking lot at the Refuge.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS:  Cross the Connecticut River on Rt. 9 and take the first right hand turn onto Rt. 47 South at the V intersection a short distance from the bridge. Proceed approximately 1.7 miles south on Rt. 47 and make a left hand turn onto Bay Road (signs will say Atkins Farms, Hampshire College and Eric Carle Museum). After turning onto Bay Road, continue approximately one mile and take the first left hand turn onto East Hadley Road for ½ mile which ends at a T intersection at South Maple Street. Make a left hand turn onto South Maple and continue for ¾ of a mile to a stop sign and make a left onto Moody Bridge Road (193 is the house on the corner). Proceed a few hundred feet to our meeting place. There is a gate blocking Moody Bridge Road just ahead so you can't drive past the meeting place.

DESCRIPTION OF WALK: The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has constructed a 1.1 mile long accessible loop trail at what was formerly a horse riding stable. The trail, parts of which are a raised boardwalk, winds alongside the Fort River, which is a tributary of the Connecticut River. The trail has several overlooks of the river with benches. The trail is flat and provides easy walking. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has Porta-Potties in the parking lot. A link to a map of the Ft. River Refuge is here; https://www.kestreltrust.org/places/fort-river-trail.

TRAIL CONDITIONS: Please wear appropriate walking shoes or hiking boots, bring a rain jacket, and hiking staffs, if you use them, and water and snacks.
