Speaker Series: Maria Rivera on "The Way to Go: Demystifying Hospice."

Maria Rivera, executive director of Hospice of the Fisher Home in Amherst, will give a virtual talk about demystifying Hospice on Friday, January 6.

She will offer a brief history of hospice, describe how it came to the area, and share stories about the wonders of hospice. Rivera will also provide an overview of the hospice benefit—what it is, how it is covered, and why all hospice care is palliative but not all palliative care is hospice care.

Rivera graduated from Greenfield Community College in 2010 with an associate's degree in nursing, went on to get her RN license, and eventually graduated with a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Elms College. She has held many positions at Hospice of the Fisher Home since 2011, including clinical director and, since 2020, executive director. Rivera says, "Hospice is truly my passion."
