Mt. Holyoke College Upper Lake Loop South Hadley, Mass. 01075 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 19, 2022

MEETING TIME AND PLACE: 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 19, 2022. We will meet at the parking lot for the Talcott Greenhouse, Lower Lake Road, Mt. Holyoke College, South Hadley, Mass. 01075, which can be used as a GPS address. The entrance to the Upper Lake Loop trail is just across Park Street, the street you entered the campus.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS: After crossing the Connecticut River on the Coolidge Bridge, in 0.3 miles make a slight right hand turn onto Old Bay Road, and after 0.3 miles, turn right onto Bay Road which is Route 47. Stay on Route 47 for approximately nine miles, passing Skinner State Park and Barstow's Restaurant on your left. Take Route 47 to South Hadley where it ends at a traffic light at Route 116 (the Village Commons is to your right). Continue across Route 116 onto Park Street which enters the Mt. Holyoke College campus. Proceed on Park Street about ¼ mile down a small hill. At the bottom of the hill and just before crossing a small bridge make a right hand turn on Lower Lake Road into the parking lot for the Talcott Greenhouse. As noted above, the entrance to the Upper Lake Loop is across Park Street, the road you drove in on. There are no visible signs stating Upper Lake Loop.

DESCRIPTION OF WALK: The Upper Lake Loop trail on the Mount Holyoke College campus is about one mile in length and runs alongside the lake much of its distance and returns to where we started the walk on the other side of a small bridge over Stony Brook. There is a dam and waterfall at the beginning of the trail which creates the lake. The start of the trail is gravel which turns into an earthen woods road as it continues its circuit back to where we started the walk, as noted above. There are college buildings along the way but most of the walk is through woods which shade the tail from the sun. There is a descriptive sign at the start of the walk which has a map of the Upper Lake Loop trail and its environs. A link to a map of the Mt. H
