Northampton Neighbors Speaker Series Presents
Adventures for All---with All out Adventures
Karen Foster
Friday December 3, 2021
3-4PM on ZOOM
Founded in 2001, All Out Adventures (AOA) has been making outdoor recreation possible, inclusive, and accessible to people of all ages and abilities for 20 years. Join Executive Director Karen Foster to learn more about how AOA adapts and modifies activities to include those with physical, developmental, and psychiatric disabilities as well as seniors and veterans. Each year AOA offers about 180 year-round programming opportunities throughout Massachusetts and Rhode Island, including cycling, kayaking, canoeing, stand up paddleboarding, snowshoeing, hiking, ice skating, and cross-country skiing. AOA also operates a recumbent trike shop on Pleasant St. in Northampton, which both furthers the organization's mission and provides critical operating support for programs. Karen will focus on local opportunities for seniors to continue to be active in the outdoors or to learn new skills and try an activity for the first time.
Karen joined the team at All Out Adventures as a Program Leader in 2004 and has been the Executive Director since 2007. She worked previously as a 9th-grade history teacher, middle school-based program administrator, coastal kayaking and road cycling instructor for the REI Outdoor School, and an educational program evaluator. She attended a National Outdoor Leadership School backpacking trip leader course at Mt. Rainier National Park, is certified in Wilderness First Aid, as a level 2 Stand Up Paddle Board instructor and as a level 2 kayak instructor with an adaptive endorsement. She holds a B.A. in history from The College of Wooster and an M.S. in Educational Administration from the University at Albany, SUNY. Karen is also our city councilor representing Ward 2.
